Nebraska and KU get ahead early making it difficult to fight back

LAWRENCE, Kan.– Kansas City Softball (5-21) fell to Nebraska (19-9) 11-2 in six innings with two hits apiece from Ally Vonfeldt and Sydney Nichols. In their second game of the day, Kansas City fell to Kansas (17-11) 8-0 in six innings. Camryn Stickel went to the circle midway through the fourth, holding the Jayhawks to one hit and notching one strikeout.

KEY MOMENTS VS. NEBRASKA

Top 1 / 0-3 | Nebraska got to an early lead bringing in three runs in the first inning. In the following inning, the Cornhuskers added five more runs.
Bottom 2 / 1-8 | Nichols got the Roos' first hit of the day, singling to right field. Kathryn Karntaz made the sacrifice, grounding the ball out and sending Nichols to second. Nichols advances to third on a passed ball and was batted in on a single from Kiki McCrea.
Bottom 3 / 2-9 | The Roos loaded second and third with a single up the right from Vonfeldt and a double down the center from Amelia Fitzgerald. Nichols nailed another single to bat Vonfeldt in and add a run for Kansas City.

STATS TO NOTE VS. NEBRASKA

Nichols and McCrea lead the Roos' with one RBI each.
Nebraska saw five more at-bats than Kansas City with 25, making quick work batting in 11 runs from ten hits.
Audrey Danielson threw one strikeout and was relieved by Bailey Brumley who notched two strikeouts.

KEY MOMENTS VS. KANSAS

Bottom 1 / 0-3 |The Jayhawks strung together two singles and a double to get on the board first.
Top 2 / 0-3 | Fitzgerald earned the Roos' first hit of the game with a double down the center, but the Roos' were not able to convert. Kansas City held the Jayhawks in the bottom of the second inning.
Top 4 / 0-4| Noble nailed a double to right center to put the Roos' in scoring position. Kansas quickly shut the opportunity down with a double play. The Jayhawks added four in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of home runs to start the inning.

STATS TO NOTE VS. KANSAS

A triple from Karnatz in the top of the fifth was her second for the season and the Roos' third triple this year.
Kansas City had four hits from Smith, Karnatz, Fitzgerald and Noble
