Kansas City Battles with No. 25 Missouri

A 6th inning scoring drive was not enough to take down the Tigers
This was the most runs Kansas City has scored in a matchup against Missouri since 2002 when the Roos fell 11-6. The only other instance Kansas City scored more runs was in their 7-5 victory over the Tigers in 1997, the only win the Roos have secured in the 54 matchups. Lexy Smith led Kansas City in hits with two, batting in one run. Amelia Fitzgerald, Sydney Nichols, Katie Noble and Ally Vonfeldt each racked up an RBI.
KEY MOMENTS
- Bottom 1 / 0-3 | Missouri hit a home run to put three on the board. The following inning, another slid home to add to their score.
- Top 3 / 0-4 | Lauren Parker battled in the box, forcing ten pitches from Missouri but was not able to convert, getting Missouri its final out of the inning.
- Bottom 3 / 0-4 | A strike out from Danielson gave the Roos their first out of the inning and her first strikeout of the day.
- Top 5 / 1-5 | Smith singled to get Kansas City its first hit of the day, Noble advanced to second after being walked. The next batter up, Fitzgerald nailed a double for the Roos to bring in a run.
- Top 6 / 5-7 | Five Kansas City singles, along with two walks allow KC their closest chance to a comeback. The Roos brought in four runs to bring their total to five. Missouri went into the bottom of the inning fired-up adding another four runs.
- Danielson's seven strikeouts were crucial for the Roos. She topped her previous career high of three which she achieved in the Kansas City matchup against Evansville this season.
- Kansas City has only scored more runs against the Tigers on two other occasions: its 1997 win and in 2002 when KC fell 6-11.
- This was the second most runs Kansas City has put up against a ranked opponent, the only exception being its 2021 upset over No. 6 Oklahoma St. 6-5.
The Roos travel to Greeley, Colo. to take on Northern Colorado. The Roos will play a full series against the Bears with a game at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and a double-header Saturday.
