After a dominant win to GSU, Kansas City falls to FIU
MIAMI, Fla. – Kansas City Softball (1-1) opened its season with a 6-1 win over Georgia State (0-2). The Roos later fell to Florida International University (1-1) in their second game of the day 9-2. Both Kiki McCrea and Lexy Smith put up two RBI's for Kansas City in its season opener.

- Top 1 / 0 – 0 | Camryn Stickle got her first strikeout of the game to close the top of the first inning.
- Bottom 3 / 1 – 0 | Katie Noble hit a single up center field. On a ground out by Espy Daniels, Noble made it to second and was brought in by a double by Kiki McCrea.
- Bottom 3 / 2 – 0 | Sydney Nichols hit another double, which allowed McCrea to put another run on the board for the Roos.
- Bottom 4 / 4 - 0 | With the bases loaded, Katherine Karnatz and McCrea drew walks bringing in two runners for the Roos.
- Bottom 6 / 6 -1 | With Nichols on second and McCrea on third, a double from Smith brought in two more runs for the Roos.
- Stickle threw out 114 pitches and documented six strikeouts.
- The Roos put up eight hits as a team compared to three from GSU.
- Top 1 / 2-0 | After McCrea was walked to first, singles from Nichols and Smith loaded the bases. An Ally Vonfeldt single brought McCrea in to score, which was followed up by an Amelia Fitzgerald single, bringing Nichols home.
- Top 3 / 2-0 | Smith hit nice single to right field, getting a base hit. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Roos were not able to capitalize on the opportunity.
- Bottom 3 / 2-0 | A handful of singles allowed FIU to load the bases. Kansas City held the Panthers, getting a force out at the plate, followed by a strikeout and line out drive to third.
- Bottom 4 / 2-6 | FIU gets on the scoreboard. A single from Isabella Perez, followed by a double from Carmen Perez along with an aggressive offense allows the Panthers to bring in six runs.
- Bottom 6 / 2-9| FIU added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the game out.
- Smith, Nobel and Karnatz all recorded two hits apiece for the Roos.
- Between Nobel and Bailey Brumley, both in their first game in the circle for Kansas City, respectively had three and two strikeouts, giving Kansas City five compared to FIU's one.
