?Roos Season Comes To A Close In WAC Semis

(Kansas City, Mo.) – UMKC volleyball had its 2015 season come to a close on Friday night as the 'Roos fell 3-0 to New Mexico State in the semifinals of the WAC tournament inside the Swinney Recreation Center.
Skyler Muff led the 'Roos offensive attack, hitting .417 with seven kills, four blocks and two digs, while Jessica Hendin registered a team-high eight kills, hitting .200 with eight digs and three blocks.
With the loss, UMKC finishes its season 15-13 overall, while New Mexico State improves to 26-5 overall and advances to play Bakersfield in tomorrow's championship match with a spot in the NCAA Tournament on the line.
In the opening set, the two teams were tied early at 9-9, but four straight from NMSU gave the Aggies a 13-9 edge. The 'Roos would answer with back-to-back points, including the latter on a kill by Mosier. New Mexico State, though, would stretch the lead to a set-high eight before taking a 1-0 lead with a 25-18 win.
New Mexico State extended its lead in set two with a 25-19 victory. The score was tied early at 5-5, but NMSU used a 5-0 run to stretch the lead to 10-5. The 'Roos would close to within two at 11-9 after a kill by Muff, but the Aggies pushed the lead to a set-high seven before winning 25-19.
In the final set, UMKC struck first on a Mosier kill and the two squads would remain within one point of one another until a 5-0 run by the Aggies put the top-seeded squad on top 13-8. The 'Roos would make a run to close the deficit to three at 19-16, but a 6-3 run by NMSU to close the match gave NM State a 25-19 win and sent them to the championship match.
Sydney Crimmins and Brianna Starr each registered six kills, hitting .286 and .235, respectively, while Mosier chipped in five kills.
Defensively, Taryn Miller and Kaylyn Brandt each had a team-best nine digs, with Brandt also leading the team with 20 assists.
The UMKC senior class departs Kansas City as the school's all-time winningest class, picking up 71 wins, finishing with a winning season all four years and winning the school's first ever conference title a season ago.
