Roos Return to Win Column with Sweep of North Dakota

A balanced attack, led by Kimora Whetstone and Odyssey Warren, paced the Roos' winning efforts
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Volleyball (14-4, 5-1) responded to its first Summit League loss of the season in resounding fashion, sweeping past North Dakota this evening, 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-14). After battling to grind out a first set victory, the Roos coasted in the final two sets, clinching their fifth sweep of the season. Four Roos reached double-digit kills, led by Kimora Whetstone and Odyssey Warren with 11 each.

- Set 1 / 28 – 26 | The Roos and North Dakota stayed close and engaged in a rally until the first kill of the night by Carly Gillen brought Kansas City to the first lead. However, the Fighting Hawks quickly answer back taking a three-point lead, until Warren secured a kill that tied the score 16-16. After multiple ties, Kansas City grabbed the first set by pushing through on a kill by Warren and an error by UND.
- Set 2 / 25 – 19 | Whetstone took charge with the first kill of the set, helping Kansas City grab an early lead. She continued this momentum with another kill, extending the lead. The Fighting Hawks tried to bring the score close, but the Roos refused to give up that lead with Kaia Dunford and Gillen securing explosive kills, assisting the Roos in maintaining a two-point distance. North Dakota was unable to catch up as Kansas City ends the set ahead six points.
- Set 3 / 25 – 14 | Kansas City kept its momentum from the previous sets with an early kill from Sila Ozyruek, but North Dakota took its lone lead of the set at 10-9. The Roos responded with an 8-4 run and closed the match out on the serve of Warren, winning the final seven points of the game.
STATS TO NOTE
- Whetstone finished with 11 kills on 15 attacks for a .733 hitting percentage. It was the third time this season she reached double digits, and the fifth time of her career. It also marked a career-high in hitting percentage, eclipsing her previous best of .667.
- Leah Green notched 22 digs, her career-high in a three-set match. She also was on the receiving end of 25 serves, notching a perfect 1.000 reception percentage.
- Gillen ended the night with 10 kills on 20 attacks, her ninth time this season eclipsing the 10-kill mark.
- After hitting just .140 in the first set, the Roos attacked at a .356 clip in the final two sets, finishing the match with a .276 hitting percentage.
- Kansas City limited North Dakota's offense as no Fighting Hawk hitters reached double-digit kills.
