SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Summit League Softball All-League lists were released today, with a pair of Kansas City players earning a spot on the honorable mention team. Briona Woods and Gianna Lickel have led the Roos' charge from the outfield all season long and their efforts were recognized by coaches around the league.
Woods finds herself on the Honorable Mention All-League list for the second year in-a-row, starting in all 18 of Kansas City's Summit League contests. She led the team in batting average during conference play among qualifying players, batting .302 from the plate with a team-leading 16 hits and five runs scored. Patrolling center field, she logged the most fielding chances of any Roo outfielder with 42, making 38 putouts for a .905 fielding percentage throughout league play.
Lickel got hot at the plate during the back half of the season, earning her first all-league nod as a sophomore. She started in all of the Roos' league games, batting .260 with four RBIs through 18 contests. From Apr. 22-29, she logged at least one hit in seven-straight games with three multi-hit games in that stretch. Her seven-game hitting streak matched the longest of the season by any Kansas City player.Â
Kansas City opens the postseason on Wednesday afternoon against third-seeded South Dakota, scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
