
Kansas City Shows Promise in Tight Battle with Eastern Michigan

Roos took the first two sets before the Eagles stormed back to steal the next three
RADFORD, VA. - Kansas City Volleyball (0-3) came strong out of the gate but couldn't hold on to a two set lead as the Roos fell 3-2 to Eastern Michigan (2-1) at the Dedmon Center on Saturday morning. The Roos took the opening set in comeback fashion, outscoring the Eagles 14-6 to close off the frame. Spearheading the early effort was Ryanne Wattree who put away two late kills to clinch the set.Â
Kansas City got out to a stellar start in set two, going on a 12-6 to open the period. Ledisi Kpea and Mia Weaver were brilliant in the frame, combining for six kills in the Roos tightly contested 25-23 set two victory. Following a 4-1 start in set three, the Eagles made adjustments and climbed their way back into the contest. Eastern Michigan proceeded to go on a 12-2 point run and climb up to a 13-6 advantage with their backs against the walls. EMU kept their foot on the gas and took the third set 25-16.Â
The Roos lost some steam for the remainder of the match as EMU carried their newfound momentum into set four, taking it 25-18. After a 3-3 tie to begin the all-important fifth set, the Eagles went on a 12-4 point run to complete the comeback and foil Kansas City's hopes of the match win. The Roos struggled to find their way offensively, committing 28 errors on offensive attacks and six errors on services.Â
Meanwhile, Weaver finished the match with a dozen kills leading the way for KC. Kpea and Wattree chipped in double figure kill outings with 11 and 10 respectively. Chloe Kaminski registered a team-high 22 digs as four Roos hit the double digit mark in the statistical marker. For the game, the Eagles outscored the Roos in points 80-62 which proved to be the difference maker in the final result.Â
Kansas City turns the page to the Saluki Bash where the Roos will play Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois and New Mexico State in Carbondale, Ill. next weekend.
