Kansas City Volleyball and Head Coach Christi Posey officially announced the addition of Zach Warring as an assistant coach on Aug. 18, 2021. Warring enters his second year in his current position in 2022. Warring rejoined Posey and the Roos after serving as a volunteer assistant for the program in 2015 and is responsible for social media operations, recruiting, training and scheduling.
“Under the lead of Coach Posey, Kansas City has had a strong track record in the win/loss column while never sacrificing her reputation for training young women with love and respect,” Warring said. “Learning from someone like Coach Posey will provide me the opportunity to gain a similar reputation in the sport I love. I look forward to being a part of the program’s journey moving forward.”
In the 2021 season, the Roos posted their fourth-ever 20-win season with the help of McCall's guidance. The Roos defeated three in-state foes, including the Missouri Tigers, and ended the regular season with wins over Omaha and Denver, which were the league's No. 1 and 3 seeds, respectively. Kansas City's Maddie Renn earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Renn, De'Janae Arnold, Melanie Brecka and Alli Schomers were each named First Team All-Summit.
From 2016-2020, Warring was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at William Jewell College. He had success as the program’s defensive and blocking coach, leading Olivia Tolberd to two All-Conference seasons and the program’s career dig record. Additionally, under Warring’s guidance, Elizabeth Quinn rewrote the Cardinals’ blocking records. During his first season with WJC, he helped the team to its first 10-plus win season in four years, an accomplishment which the team maintained over the next three seasons.
Prior to his stint at William Jewell, Warring was a volunteer assistant coach under Coach Posey in 2015. The Roos went 15-13 on the season and upset Seattle U in the WAC Quarterfinals to advance to the semis.
From 2012-14, Warring served as a volunteer assistant at Johnson County Community College, posting a third place NJCAA National Championship finish and coaching two All-Americans during his tenure.
In addition to volleyball coaching, Warring owns his own personal training business, Genesis Fitness KC, and is NASM certified in personal training, corrective exercise and sport performance. He was also published as an author in June 2021 with his book, Building a Team of Leaders.
An Olathe, Kan. native, Warring graduated from Olathe Northwest in 2008 before attending the University of Kansas to earn his Bachelor’s in Biology in 2012 and his Master’s in Education in 2014.
Warring currently resides in Olathe with his wife, Jackie and their dog, Izzy. Their hobbies include paddle boarding, playing volleyball, and spending time together with family and friends.
