12/8/2022 5:29:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Kansas City travels to Green Bay for the first time since 2001 to finish non-conference play
- Kansas City closes non-conference play on the road in Green Bay, still seeking its first win in a true road game. The Roos have won two games away from the Swinney Center, but both came in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. Kansas City currently holds an 0-4 record in road games, all of which were played against Power Five opponents.
- Sixty is the magic number for Kansas City's offense. The Roos currently average just 64.2 points per game, the lowest mark in the Summit League. On the other side of that, they are holding opponents to 67.3 points per game, the best mark in the Summit. When Kansas City fails to reach the 60-point mark, it is 0-6 on the year. When scoring 60-plus, the Roos hold a 4-2 record, including a 2-0 record when they eclipse the 70-point plateau.
- Babacar Diallo has provided a spark for the Roos in his past two games, the first two starts of his career. In his first start against Lindenwood, he played a career-high 28 minutes, going scoreless, but pulling down eight rebounds, dishing two assists and logging a block and a steal each. In the last game at Oklahoma, Diallo nabbed three steals and scored a career-high six points.
- Despite a roster with 11 freshman and first-year players accounting for 39% of all minutes, Coach Marvin Menzies has relied on experience to lead the way. Shemarri Allen averages 34:07 minutes per game, which ranks second in the Summit League and 93rd in the nation. RayQuawndis Mitchell averages 33:29 minutes per game, ranking third in the league and 143rd in the nation. Both have logged nine-plus games of 30-or-more minutes played this season.
- Allen David Mukeba Jr. has been one of the best all-around players, not just for Kansas City, but in the Summit League. He averages 9.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. His two double-doubles are second-most in the league, also ranking first in offensive rebounding, second in total rebounding, third in blocks, fifth in defensive rebounding and sixth in steals.
Green Bay Notes
- In their third year under the direction of Head Coach Will Ryan, the Phoenix are off to a 1-8 start this season, nabbing their first win of the year against IUPUI before a loss at Loyola on Tuesday.
- Phoenix Director of Basketball Operations Adam Owens got his start in Kansas City, serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Roos during the 2019-20 season.
- This will be the eighth time in program history that the two teams have faced off, with Kansas City owning a 4-3 advantage all-time and winning the last two contests.Â
- The two teams met up in Kansas City last season, with the Roos taking a 64-55 victory. Kansas City forced the Phoenix into 18 turnovers and 2-of-12 three-point shooting in the victory.
- The teams have played in Green Bay just twice, and not since the 2001-02 season. The last time they played in Wisconsin was a 48-47 Kansas City win on Nov. 17, 2001.
- Green Bay averages 58.0 points per game on 39.0% field goal shooting, both marks at the bottom of the Horizon League.
- Zay Blake leads the Phoenix with an average of 11.0 points per game, also leading the team in assists and steals.
