Softball Sweeps the Day as D'Ambrosio Walks-Off Extra Inning Thriller

Coach Shaw Earns 100th Career Victory
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Softball (10-29, 6-7) conquered the weather and Western Illinois (7-30, 3-11) in the day one double-header. Mia Hoveland recorded a four-hit shutout in game one, as the Roos' extra base hits lifted KC over WIU, 4-0. Kansas City needed extra innings in game two to walk-off the victory, 4-3, off the bat of Alexis D'Ambrosio that brought in Ashley Thorne as the winning run. The game two victory marked Head Coach Kerry Shaw's 100th career win.

- Bottom 1 / 3-0 | Kloe Hilbrenner leadoff reaching base with her speed on an error by the second baseman. She later scored on a double by Ally Vonfeldt and then D'Ambrosio added two more to the scoreboard with a base clearing triple.
- Bottom 4 / 4-0 | Hilbrenner brought around Katelyn Garcia to score on a double to the left-centerfield fence.
- Top 7 / 4-0 | Kansas City's defense remained flawless, and Hoveland recorded the shutout.

- Bottom 8 / 4-3 | Thorne started a two-out rally with a hit, then the Roos loaded the bases with a walk by Garcia and an intentional walk to Hilbrenner. D'Ambrosio seized the moment and drove a line drive up the middle to score Thorne and walk-off the game.
- Thorne finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs scored. She also tallied another stolen base to remain a perfect 8-for-8 this season.
- Hilbrenner had a season-high four stolen bases to bring her season total to 27, which moved her into top-15 in the country in stolen bases this season.
- D'Ambrosio, Hilbrenner and Karnes all had two hits apiece and at least one run driven in.
- Stickel came on in relief in the second inning and earned the victory. She completed 6.2 innings pitched, only giving up four hits and one run, while striking out four.
