Roos Cruise Past William Jewell in Dominating 42-Point Win

15-steal & 10-block defensive performance highlighted Kansas City's home-opening victory
KANSAS CITY – Kansas City (2-1) took care of business against William Jewell (1-1) by a score of 74-32 in the Swinney Center on Saturday evening. After a close first quarter, the Roos broke off on a 28-6 run across the entirety of the second quarter. With a 28-point halftime lead, Kansas City kept the good times rolling in the second half, shooting 53% in quarters three and four and 51% from the field for the game.
Three Roos cracked double figures in points, led by Emani Bennett who totaled a team-high 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Alayna Contreras and Zaire Harrell chipped in a dozen points each to contribute to the Roos' efficient offensive night. Five Roos notched multi-steal games, with Harrell, Ana Oliveira Dias, and Alyssa Febres registering three steals each.

- 1Q - 5:54 / 4-4 | After a turnover on their previous offensive possession, Kansas City stood their ground on the defensive end as Em. Bennett blocked two driving layup attempts from William Jewell's Ayden Shannon in a five second span, giving her three blocks in the first quarter.
- 1Q - 0:31 / 10-4 | The Roos continued their stifling defense when Harrell picked off a pass and went coast to coast for a fastbreak layup to get Kansas City to the double digit point mark right before the end of the first quarter.
- 2Q - 0:00 / 38-10 | Contrareras grabbed the defensive rebound and took the ball up the floor for a pull-up jumper in the lane to beat the second quarter buzzer, giving the Roos a 28-point halftime lead.

STATS TO NOTE
- With the win, Kansas City HC Dionnah Jackson-Durrett moves to 3-0 in home openers in her tenure with the Roos. The Roos have won their last six home openers, dating back to the 2018-19 season.
- Kansas City put together a 28-point second quarter performance, the most points in a quarter since scoring 29 points in the opening frame against Omaha back in late January of the 2023-24 season.
- The Roos put the clamps on the Cardinals all game long, recording 15 steals and 10 blocks in the contest, the first 15-steal and 10-block performance in a single game since at least the 2002-03 season according to Sports Reference.
- KC had a well rounded scoring output with all 10 of the Roos who notched double digit minutes scoring in the contest. Additionally, 11 of the 12 Roos who played in the game scored one field goal or more.
- It was a career night for Harrell, who knocked down the first three pointer of her career and posted a career-high 12 points. It was also the first double digit scoring game of her career.
