Mesa Falleur brings home the individual crown as KC wins its second-straight league title
SELLERSBURG, Ind. - Some things are inevitable. In the case of Kansas City Men's Golf and the Summit League Championship the past two seasons, that inevitability is a third-round comeback and the Roos clinching a title. Kansas City clinched the Summit League crown for the second-straight year this afternoon, and for the second-straight year Kansas City came back after beginning the final day trailing by multiple strokes.
The Roos were led by the seventh individual conference champion in program history, Mesa Falleur. Falleur was tied for second after the first two rounds, shooting a 5-under 67 in round one and staying under-par with a 71 in round two. He was nearly flawless in the final round, firing off five birdies (including four on the front nine), and 13 pars for his second 67 of the tournament, the only player to reach that mark twice on the week. Falleur was joined in the top 10 by Lucas Dutartre and Max Cooper, who tied for third, along with Maxence Mugnier, who finished tied for 10th.
Kansas City finished the first day sitting in first place, but fell behind after the second round, heading into Tuesday in third place. The Roos were confident across the board in the final round - all five players finished under par, with four-of-five shooting 4-under or better. It was a battle with South Dakota State throughout the round, as both teams traded the lead back-and-forth. The Roos claimed the lead for good on the back nine, finishing with a seven-stroke victory.
