Roos Fall in Heartbreaking Fashion at Tulsa

Kansas City gave up a pair of goals in the final three minutes after leading for the entire second half
The Roos got things started quickly, scoring on their second attacking opportunity of the afternoon. Kaitlyn Edwards switched the field, sending a ball to Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco on the left side. Zolesio found Ashley Koch at the corner of the box, cutting in and sending a laser to the upper-right corner for the game's opening goal.Â
Koch has now found the back of the net in each of the Roos' last four games, bringing her career tally to six. Edwards and Zolesio were each credited with assists, putting Edwards at a team-high three on the season.
It did not take long for the Golden Hurricane to respond, scoring in the 15th minute. The rest of the half was played evenly it seemed, until Zolesio struck in the 45th. Riley Porter, making her Kansas City debut, made an outstanding run to the end line and centered the ball. Zolesio was right where she needed to be, slotting it away for the go-ahead goal with 15 seconds remaining in the half.
Zolesio has scored six goals across the past three games, making her the Summit League's leader in goals and goals per game. Porter played just 15 minutes on the day but found her way into the score sheet, becoming the 10th Roo to log an assist this season.
The second half presented prime opportunities for the Roos, namely a breakaway shot for Koch in the 57th minute and a free kick from the top of the box for Zolesio in the 83rd. KC was unable to convert, however, leaving the door open for Tulsa. Momentum swung the way of the Golden Hurricane and Jordan Frederick found the back of the net in the 88th and 89th minutes to steal the game.
Kansas City returns to the confines of Durwood Soccer Stadium on Thursday, taking on Marquette in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
