Roos’ seven goals, Delfina Zolesio hat trick both firsts since 2018
KANSAS CITY, MO. - Kansas City Women's Soccer (2-2) came into its third home match against Rockhurst (0-0) with two goals in the first three games. Sunday evening, the Roos flipped the script, posting seven scores to stomp the Hawks 7-0 at Durwood Soccer Stadium. KC's seven goals are the most the Roos have registered in a contest in Jessica Smith's tenure and the most since Kansas City's 8-0 win over Chicago State in 2018.Â
Leading the way for the Roos was graduate transfer Delfina Zolesio, who notched the Roos' first hat trick in seven years. With a two-goal lead in the second half, she provided an extra spark of offense, putting three shots into the back of the net. Perhaps even more impressive, all three of the Argentinian's scores came within a 17 minute span of each other. Last time KC had a hat trick was Ryann Burnett against Chicago State on Oct. 27, 2018.Â
In addition to Zolesio's hat trick, several other Roos made major contributions to the dominant final result. Breckynn Pugh put together a brace and scored her first two career goals. Ashley Koch booted the Roos' opening score into the back of the net, giving her two games in a row with a goal. Kayla Fraser put the finishing touches on the Roos offensive explosion, netting the squad's final goal and giving her a career first.Â
Kansas City spread the wealth well as 13 players took a shot in the game, eight of which recorded more than one shot. Additionally, six of the Roos seven goals were assisted with each of them being assisted by a different Roo. Fraser and Koch were the two Roos to notch both a goal and an assist in the match. As a unit, Kansas City outscored the Hawks 29-5 in the shots category, placing 15 of those 29 shots on goal to Rockhurst's one.Â
The Roos came away with their second straight clean sheet, following their 1-0 victory on the road against Missouri State. Audrey Brown, Hayes Fitzgerald and Anika Patton all got in on the action as all three played 30 minutes each with Fitzgerald recording the Roos only save of the evening.Â
Up next, Kansas City hosts Lindenwood at 7 p.m. on Thursday for the Roos fourth home tilt in their first five games.Â
