Delfina Zolesio scored a pair, Ashley Koch added her third-straight game-winner in the victory
KANSAS CITY, MO. - In an offseason that was full of roster turnover, Kansas City needed a go-to goal scoring option headed into the 2025 season. After five games, it appears the Roos have found just that in Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco. Coming in from Columbia College, D. Zolesio has made a splash for the Roos as the graduate transfer's second consecutive brace powered Kansas City (3-2) to a 3-2 victory over Lindenwood (3-1-1) on Thursday evening. Â
Despite a slow first 20 minutes, Kansas City set up a strong attack with forwards Olivia Platt and Ashley Koch setting the table for a D. Zolesio header in the 24th minute that put the Roos up 1-0. The opening score was her fourth in the last two games as the Argentinian midfielder notched a hat trick in the Roos 7-0 thrashing of Rockhurst last Sunday. Lindenwood equalized a minute later thanks to a goal off the foot of Ava Blum with assists to Mackenzie Compton and Anna Johnson.Â
With the match tied at one all, the Roos fought hard to earn more opportunities and got one in the 40th minute. Emilia Zolesio sent a pass into the box that was headed by Ella Reyling into the direction of D. Zolesio. With nothing but the Lions goalkeeper in front of her, D. Zolesio capitalized by knocking in her second goal into the lower right corner of the net.Â
The grad transfer has registered five goals in the Roos last two contests, tying her for the program record for most goals in a two game span with Taylor Bare, who did the same feat in 2013. On a conference level, D. Zolesio's five goals on the season is tied for the top spot in the Summit League with Charlie Basinet of North Dakota. Kansas City took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.Â
The second half brought more exciting action to the pitch with the Roos and Lions exchanging blows. Kansas City saw another breakaway in the 69th minute when Koch broke up a Lions corner kick chance and took the ball to the house, booting a shot from the right side of the box into the top left shelf to put the Roos up 3-1. Koch's nifty score gives her a goal in three straight games as the junior forward recorded the game-winning goal in the Roos 1-0 win over Missouri State and the game-opening score against Rockhurst.Â
Down multiple scores, Lindwood didn't give up as the Lions earned a penalty kick in the 71st minute and capitalized with Tasneem Dizdarevic sweeping an uncontested shot past Audrey Brown. With the score at 3-2 favoring the Roos, Kansas City had to play keep away for the final few minutes. KC's defense stood strong as the Roos cleared away several last-minute chances from the Lions and survived for the narrow 3-2 victory.Â
Kansas City out-shot the Lions 13-9 total and 6-4 in terms of shots on goal. The Roos took half those on-goal opportunities and scored on 50% of them, giving them their most efficient offensive output of the season to date. Following wins over Missouri State and Rockhurst, Kansas City has now made it three in a row and gets to above .500 for the first time in 2025.Â
Kansas City will bring their three game win streak on the road as the Roos take on Tulsa at 1 p.m. on Sunday.Â
