Stickel pitched eight inning thriller, striking out five Jackrabbits

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kansas City Softball (8-29, 4-7) finished off the series against South Dakota State (29-10, 10-2) with a tough loss in game one, 2-10 in six innings. Camryn Stickel kept the Jackrabbits' bats in check in game two, holding the best offensive team in the Summit to just five hits and one run in the 0-1 extra inning final decision.

GAME 1 KEY MOMENTS

Bottom 1 / 0-5 | The Jackrabbits used a large five-run two-out rally to take a hefty initial lead.
Top 2 / 2-5 | Katherine Karnatz led off the inning with a double and the Roos loaded the bases on free passes, then Kloe Hilbrenner brought in two runs on an infield error by the Jackrabbits.
Bottom 4 / 2-6 | Casey Stout held SDSU off until a two-out double brought in another run for the Jacks.
Bottom 5 / 2-7 | South Dakota State brought in one more on a double to the wall.

Hilbrenner started the game with another leadoff hit, extending her hitting streak to eight games.
Hilbrenner swiped her 21^st stolen base of the season, moving her into top-35 in NCAA Division I on the year. It also marks 66 stolen bases in her career, which is second-best in program history, while becoming the quickest Roo to reach that milestone.
After returning from injury, Karnatz earned her first hit of the year with a double to the right field wall.
Casey Stout pitched the first five innings, giving up five hits and five free passes, while striking out three.

GAME 2 KEY MOMENTS

Top 3 / 0-0 | Ashley Thorne got the Roos' first hit of game two but was not brought around to score.
Bottom 5 / 0-0 | A relay from Marina Karnes to Sydney Nichols to Lexy Smith denied SDSU a triple and kept the game scoreless.
